Our Story

The people behind the kitchen

Good food has always been our starting point.

Washoku Kitchen was established by Hayakawa Tomoko, serving schools including Marshland School, Heathcote Valley School and Marian College. Ownership later passed to her son Jo Kennedy and Fraser Hendry.

With the same focus on fresh, affordable food, the team set out to share sushi, donburi and rice balls with university students and the wider Christchurch community. Pickup from the kitchen and a University of Canterbury pickup point are mentioned in the original story; please check current arrangements before travelling.
